For “that little bit extra”: Brentford sign Fabio Carvalho

After two loan spells last season, Liverpool FC have found a permanent replacement for Fabio Carvalho. The former Leipzig player is moving to Brentford FC

Fabio Carvalho had probably imagined his time at Liverpool differently – after just two years, the Portuguese attacker is already leaving the Reds. Despite a disappointing loan spell at Leipzig last season, which came to an abrupt end in the winter, the 21-year-old will remain in the Premier League.

One of the reasons for this is Fabio Carvalho’s significant upturn in form in the second half of the season, which he finished with nine goals and two assists for Hull City in the Championship. Figures that the talented right-footer could only dream of in Germany, where he only managed just under 360 minutes of action in 15 games for RB – without any direct involvement in goals

Convincing performances during preparation

Another reason is his strong pre-season preparation under new LFC coach Arne Slot. His goals in the test matches against Arsenal (2:1) and Manchester United (3:0) have not gone unnoticed by the Bees, who are willing to pay a lot of money for his services. According to reports, the fixed fee amounts to around 23 million euros and could rise to over 30 million euros due to bonuses. Liverpool are also said to have secured a sell-on fee.

Meanwhile, Brentford head coach Thomas Frank is looking forward to a player “who can play in all three or four attacking positions in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.” The Portuguese is a type of player “that we don’t have many of in the squad, so he will give us that little bit extra,” the Danish coach predicts.
