First stop outside Europe: Giroud joins Los Angeles FC

Olivier Giroud’s move to Los Angeles FC is complete. The striker has signed a contract with the MLS club until 2025 with an option to extend

On Monday, Giroud announced that he would be leaving AC Milan at the end of the season. In his farewell video, the 37-year-old revealed that he would be heading to the MLS. One day later, it was officially announced which club the Frenchman will be scoring for in the future: Giroud is moving to Los Angeles FC.

In Los Angeles, Giroud will receive a contract until 2025, which includes an option to extend until 2026. “Olivier has a strong will to win, which he has proven time and time again in his club and international career,” said John Thorrington, Co-President and General Manager at LAFC, in the club’s press release.

At his future employer, Giroud will meet his former national team colleague Hugo Lloris. The keeper has been under contract with Steven Cherundolo-coached LAFC since the beginning of the year.

Giroud leaves Europe with a few titles

For Giroud, Los Angeles is his first stop outside the European continent. Before moving to Milan in 2021, the Frenchman played for Arsenal FC and Chelsea FC, among others. The 2018 World Cup winner won the Europa League (2019) and the Champions League (2021) with the Blues. He won the Scudetto with Milan in 2022. In the current season, the Rossoneri are in second place behind the already confirmed champions Inter Milan. Giroud is his team’s top scorer with 14 goals.
