The voting for the 12th man of the TOTY in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team (FUT) is open: Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Karim Benzema are up for selection.
Traditionally, the offensive Team of the Year (TOTY) is particularly fiercely contested, with numerous top players vying for just three spots. Even in FIFA 22, not all of last year’s outstanding performances could be recognised with a TOTY inclusion, but the voting for the 12th man keeps the way open through the back door.
Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappé form the attack in the TOTY, quite a few big names went away empty-handed – but three of them can now hope again. Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo, Liverpool FC’s Mohamed Salah and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema are in the running for the 12th man.
CR7 and Salah favoured
The trio have been in the voting since Monday night via FUT itself, with EA SPORTS putting players spoilt for choice when they log in. The favourites are CR7 and Salah, who were both TOTY-ready in 2021: Ronaldo was the top scorer in both Serie A and the European Championship before his move to United.
Salah, on the other hand, has had an outstanding first half of the current season, with various experts considering the Reds’ right-winger to be the most fit player in the world. Thanks to the 16 goals he has already scored, he is by far the most prolific professional in what is arguably the best-played league on the planet – the English Premier League.
Release next Friday
Benzema, despite his enormous importance in the attacking play of the “Royals “ is only the outsider’s role – further proof of the high quality density among the international top attackers. The winner of the 12th man vote will receive a full TOTY item for FUT 22 and looks set to be added to the packs next Friday at 7pm.
The start of the voting also brings another realisation: No German will be honoured with a TOTY card in FIFA 22. The last chance to participate in the prestigious promo is via the Honourable Mentions, which are to be released soon, but do not bring upgrades of the same magnitude.
