FIFA 22: Lewandowski as new 9 for Barcelona?

Will Robert Lewandowski make the move away from FC Bayern? In FIFA 22, the latest rumours surrounding FC Barcelona could make for an interesting combination

Polish public broadcaster TVP has linked the world-class attacker with a move to Catalonia, with Lewandowski even said to have already agreed to a transfer. However, there have been no official comments from the Pole, FC Bayern Munich or FC Barcelona so far.

The thought construct with the Spanish top club and the 33-year-old is an interesting one, not only on the real pitch. Barcelona have not had a centre-forward of Lewandowski’s calibre – despite Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s recent strong form – since the departure of Luis Suárez.

The pace has to be provided by others

The Blaugrana have lost a lot of their offensive brilliance in recent years with the departures of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Suárez. Of course, a Lewandowski transfer could remedy that. In FIFA 22, Barca would first and foremost secure the second-best player of all.

At least according to the overall rating: Lewandowski ranks with 92 points directly behind Messi (93), even ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo or Karim Benzema of archrival Real Madrid. His shot (92) is one of the strongest in the entire game, but otherwise the virtual image of the attacker is a typical victim of the FIFA meta.

With his pace of 78, Lewandowski is far from the top – precisely this attribute is one of the most important for offensive players in the football simulation. Nevertheless, the Pole could be an asset in the Catalans’ classic 4-3-3, provided he is framed by the right wingers.

La Liga without Polish gold players

Potential teammates like Adama Traoré (96), Ousmane Dembelé (93) or Ansu Fati (88) bring the speed Lewandowski lacks. They could play on the flanks and serve perhaps the best centre-forward in the world with pin passes or crosses.

As for the links in FUT 22, nationality is not necessarily a plus: another Polish Gold player is not to be found in La Liga. Consequently, a strong chemistry would only exist with other Barca professionals. An offensive around Frenkie de Jong, Dembelé and Lewandowski would nevertheless be attractive.

Not a project with a long future

In career mode, Barcelona would gain a new facet with the strong headed (90) and robust (86) veteran – Lewandowski also shines with his positional play (95) and ball control (88). However, the signing of the attacker, who turns 34 in August, would not be a project for the future.
