Fenerbahce Set to Sign Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere transfer: from Arsenal to Fenerbahce

Jack Wilshere’s 17-year tenure at Arsenal is over. The midfielder is expected to complete a move to Turkish giants Fenerbahce next week.

Arsenal decided against renewing Jack Wilshere’s contract, so it will expire on Sunday, at which point he will officially stop being a “Gunner”. According to the Twitter account of Turkish journalist Volkan Demir:

“Jack Wilshere is in Istanbul today.”

“The information I received is that it’s over and the transfer will go ahead.”

“I expect a deal to be completed on Monday.”

He was willing to take a pay cut to stay with his beloved team, but was notified by Unai Emery he doesn’t fit in his Arsenal plans. Left with no bargaining chips, the England international is forced to depart and seems to have chosen a destination far from home.

Everton, Crystal Palace and West Ham were some of the clubs interested in acquiring his services, but the 26-year-old has opted for a more radical solution not many anticipated. There could be a couple of reasons why.

  1. He’s too attached to Arsenal to be able to face them in the Premier League.
  2. Fenerbahce offered a better deal than any of the other suitors.
  3. He wants to get as far away from England as possible, hit the restart the button and jump-start his career.

Jack Wilshere is a good player and very serviceable when healthy. However, he has suffered so many injuries throughout his career, he has an injury prone stamp attached to him for the rest of his football career. Arsene Wenger felt sorry for the Arsenal youth academy product and kept him around for as long as he could. Emery is reluctant to do the same and you can’t blame him.

Even though Wilshere wasn’t an everyday starter, The Gunners will still have to find a replacement. Sevilla’s Ever Banega is on their radar for obvious reasons, yet Lucas Torreira is the player they really want. The diminutive Uruguayan is fulfilling his World Cup assignment at the moment, but will have a lot of offers waiting on the table when he comes back to Sampdoria. Arsenal’s will be one of them. The potential move is said to be worth around €30 million.
