FC Hollywood: Highlighter Replay turns FC 25 players into directors

When things are going well at FC Bayern Munich, people have been talking about “FC Hollywood” since the 90s. With FC 25, EA SPORTS is preparing to compete with the record champions for this title

“If you’d given me the choice of letting four players off and letting Liverpool score from 30 meters or going to bed with Miss World, it would have been a tough decision. Fortunately, I did both,” is one of the iconic quotes from Manchester United’s legendary dribble artist George Best.

Creative tool with analysis function

Best’s leisure activities aside, one thing can be said with certainty: goals like the one described by the Northern Irishman are memorable. Not only for the scorer, but also for teammates and, of course, fans, who today, long after Best’s best time, can watch their favorite dream goals again and again from different angles.

In FC 25, EA SPORTS wants to give players the same opportunity in virtual soccer and has turned the entire match highlight system inside out. “Highlighter Replay” is the name of the new hub for replays and highlights, which should enable fans to watch the entire completed match again in the recap and thus analyze their own gameplay.

Great cinema on a small screen

The focus of the innovation, which will gradually be introduced in all EA SPORTS sports games, is the creative side of FC 25 players. They will be given numerous editing tools to create personalized clips from the replays. While presets already include some combinations of effects, it is also possible to completely customize the sequences with all instruments and effects.

Using blur, zoom, filters, contrast values or overlays – for example in the style of HyperMotion statistics around xG, distance & Co. – the developer wants to make it more palatable for gamers to linger over their own highlights and edit them. EA SPORTS is also advertising drone shots, generally improved cameras and a photo mode for players who don’t want to deal with moving images.

Once a clip or snapshot has been created, the path to social media is also shorter. Directly from the replay hub, FC Hollywood directors will be able to add their own creations to their channels, making them even faster than the Munich divas at the turn of the millennium when they were supplying the local press with new stories
