EA SPORTS irritated the FUT community once again on Tuesday. The developer published a pick SBC in FC 24 – with managers as options. A real contender for the “worst SBC of all time”?
An inconsistent price-performance ratio is not uncommon for Squad Building Challenges (SBCs) in Ultimate Team. However, the team building challenge “Management Change Upgrade” caused more confusion than usual on social media. And where there is misunderstanding, mockery is usually not far away.
But what is the SBC all about? The reward for completing the game is a pick of five possible gold, silver or bronze items – but these are manager items. A team with an average overall rating of at least 81 points must be traded in. FUTBIN currently puts the minimum value of the cards required for this at around 6,300 coins on the consoles.
Manager cards are by no means useless in FUT 24; with the right nation or league, they can mean additional chemistry points for the team’s player objects, for example. However, the SBC price bears no relation to the transfer market. Most manager items can be purchased there for less than 5,000 coins. The desired item can still be selected accurately.
“Never been so confused about an SBC “
Some community members expressed their bewilderment on X. YouTuber Craig ‘NepentheZ’ Douglas said he had “never been so confused about an SBC in my career as a content creator”. The user ‘Graham’ asked his more than 36,000 followers who would “seriously do this SBC”. The sarcastic answer: “I have to run home really fast to finish the manager pick SBC,” wrote ‘V10Vernon’.
The account ‘EAFC 24 News’ even suggested that this could be “the worst SBC ever”. FUTBIN added three question marks after “manager pick” to its daily X post about the 7pm content – probably symbolic for many FUT fans.
