F1 Monza Italian Grand Prix: Ticket Sales Fall Concerns

Just a few weeks ago, Fernando Alonso talked about how F1 had become too predictable in the wake of his decision to retire. The results in recent years have backed the theory, with Lewis Hamilton dominating in the last two years, just as Sebastian Vettel did before him. For the younger drivers, it has become harder to perform against the established superpowers of Formula 1.

Is the predictability of F1 leading to GP ticket sales falls?

For spectators, it also means less excitement and fewer surprise results. Lewis Hamilton’s remarkable win at the German Grand Prix to come from 14th position to mark an unforgettable race will go down in history. The problem is that if anyone could do something like that, it is going to be Lewis Hamilton. Imagine if a driver unheard of had achieved that and then catapulted into the F1 limelight. That would be some major entertainment and a fairytale story to promote the sport.

Could be unable to host Italian GP in future

Now it has been confirmed that Italian Grand Prix ticket sales have fallen, with the president of the Automobile Club d’Italia Angelo Sticchi Damiani voicing concerns that they will be unable to afford to host the race in the future.

He said: “We closed last year’s race with a strong loss, and the 2018 budget will not be different either.”

“It is clear that such a situation is not sustainable in the long term. The ACI is ready to do its part, but not under any conditions.”

A good finish from Ferrari could turn things around

Damiani stated that he hoped a good end to the 2018 F1 season for Ferrari as they could help to both keep the sport’s profile high in Italy and also add some excitement to the Constructor Standings. Ferrari currently sits just ten points behind Mercedes and some good races from Vettel and Raikkonen could put them right back at the top of the F1 Constructor Standings.
