Explosive schedule in World Cup year: Four games in June

The DFB team wants to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar as quickly as possible – the match schedule in the year of the  World Cup brings with it a certain explosiveness.

Theoretically, the team of national coach Hansi Flick could already qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar (from 21 November 2022) with the two games in this international break. Three points against Romania in Hamburg on Friday and three days later against North Macedonia in Skopje could make their way to the Emirates perfect. The prerequisite for this would be that the Armenians, who are four points behind, stumble in Iceland or Romania.

Bierhoff is looking for top-class players for March

After this double-header, the DFB team will play two more World Cup qualifiers in November (11.11. against Liechtenstein in Wolfsburg, 14.11. in Armenia), before the national team wants to play three real games in March 2022 after the four-month break. DFB manager Oliver Bierhoff is currently trying to find top-class opponents to kick off the World Cup year.

Two weeks after matchday 34: Four matchdays in the Nations League

The next test phase for Flick’s selection actually involves another serious case after the Bundesliga season, which ends on 14 May 2022. That’s because after the DFB Cup final (21 May 2022) and the Champions League final (28 May 2022), a 16-day secondment phase begins, during which four group match days of the new Nations League season will be played. For the German national players and those of the Bundesliga clubs who are called upon in the Nations League, the season will therefore not end until 14 June.

WM kick-off without training camp?

The immediate preparation for the World Cup tournament in Qatar will be just as exciting. The opening match will take place on 21 November 2022, while FIFA’s deadline for the first world tournament in winter starts a week earlier on 14 November. Depending on the draw and the associated kick-off to the World Cup tournament – Group A starts on 21 November, Group H on 24 November 2022 – a short training camp could be in the cards. Or not.
