European Wrestling Championships: Blayvas takes bronze

The 25-year-old wins the small final in the 55 kg category

Anastasia Blayvas has won the bronze medal in the 55 kg weight category at the European Wrestling Championships in Albania’s capital Tirana. The 25-year-old from KFC Leipzig beat Mihaela Samoil from Moldova in the small final. Blayvas had already won bronze at the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 European Championships.

However, the 55 kg category is a non-Olympic weight class. Accordingly, only eight athletes competed at the title fights in Tirana. Despite her opening defeat against Andrea Ana from Romania, Blayvas was allowed to fight for third place because her opponent made it to the final.

On Friday, young hopeful Naemi Leistner will also fight for bronze in the Olympic weight class up to 62 kg. The 21-year-old from RV Thalheim first won against Alicija Nowosad from Poland and Eniko Elekes from Hungary. In the semi-final, Leistner was beaten by Amina Tandelova from Russia.

The European Championships run until Sunday. On the first days of the competition, all of the German Wrestling Federation’s (DRB) starters in the men’s Greco-Roman style failed prematurely.
