The Filipino boxing legend is set to fight for the WBC welterweight title in July.
Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao is apparently set to return to the ring after four years. ESPN reported on Thursday that the 46-year-old is set to fight American Mario Barrios in Las Vegas for the WBC welterweight title; according to the report, which cites unnamed sources, the bout is scheduled to take place on July 19.
Pacquiao is considered one of the best boxers of his time, with world titles in eight different weight classes, but he retired in September 2021.
According to the ESPN report, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman also spoke about Pacquiao’s comeback plans last week at a fight in Saudi Arabia.
Pacquiao, who is also politically active in his native Philippines, is set to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame next month. In his professional boxing career to date, Pacquiao has won 62 of his fights, including 39 knockouts, and lost eight times.
