Entry permit denied: Barça fly to the USA without Xavi for the time being

According to Spanish media reports, FC Barcelona will have to travel to the USA without coach Xavi for the time being. The 42-year-old has been refused entry.

FC Barcelona’s upcoming trip to the USA played an important role in the Robert Lewandowski transfer scandal. Barça coach Xavi reportedly wanted the Pole to be there at all costs. Because both parties have since agreed on a move for the attacker to the Spanish top club, nothing stands in the way of Lewandowski’s US trip – but not for Xavi.

Spanish media reports say Xavi’s arrival in America has been delayed. The 42-year-old was not granted entry clearance through the Esta system after administrative problems – as a result, he was not even allowed to board the plane to the US.

The reasons for the automatic refusal are probably to be found in his past. During his time as an active player with Al-Sadd Doha (2015 to 2019), the midfielder travelled to Iran several times, which could now be a reason why he was denied the electronic travel authorisation – but it cannot be said for sure because there is no official statement from either the Blaugrana, Xavi or the US authorities.

After the refusal, Xavi will probably have to apply for a regular visa. This normally takes a few days, which means he could miss Lewandowski’s welcome with the team.
