eFootball 2022: Three new legends – former BVB star included

The 2022 World Cup is not far away – so there are the first national team legends in eFootball 2022. The Bundesliga is represented again in this selection.

After three Bayern legends and three Real Madrid legends have already found their way into the game, Konami is now adding three national team legends. As with the six legends before, the Bundesliga also plays a role here, although not quite as big a role as before.

The 2.02 metre tall Jan Koller spent a total of six years in the German top flight – five at Borussia Dortmund alone. Notorious for his header strength, he was the main figure of a very special moment in the Bundesliga:

On 09 November 2002, then BVB goalkeeper Jens Lehmann had to go down after being sent off. A double problem arose for the Black and Yellows, because they had exhausted their substitution quota at that point. The logical consequence: the tallest had to go in goal. Koller put on Lehmann’s jersey and kept his box clean for the remaining 23 minutes. The Czech national player also found a place in the eleven of the day – as a goalkeeper, of course.

Top goal scorer and Germany scare

For ten years Michael Owen played for the “Three Lions”. With five goals in the qualifiers for the 2004 European Championship, he played a major role in Germany reaching the finals. With 40 goals in 89 appearances, he occupies fifth place in the all-time scoring list of the English national team – and could well have scored more. However, Owen was plagued by serious injuries from the mid-2000s onwards, including a fractured metatarsal and a torn cruciate ligament.

Having celebrated his debut in the “Squadra Azzurra” in 2002, Andrea Pirlo achieved a great triumph with the Italian national team four years later. Italy became world champions at the World Cup in Germany. First defeating Germany 2-0 after extra time in the semi-finals, a memorable final followed. First Zinedine Zidane, who was playing his last game, saw the red card after an assault on Marco Materazzi, then the Italian eleven narrowly won on penalties.
