Eberl: “FC Bayern would like to drop the game”

The second leg of the 2021/22 Bundesliga season kicks off on Friday evening. However, things could turn out differently. Gladbach’s manager Max Eberl revealed this on Wednesday.

The second-round kick-off on Friday evening is reserved for FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach. However, there is still a question mark behind the match.

Eberl: “Assume that the match will take place on Friday “

Because the team of the record champion is currently very thinned out due to quite a few corona-related absences – in the last few days alone, FC Bayern had to mourn eight corona cases in the professional team. “It is the case that FC Bayern would like to cancel,” Eberl revealed at Gladbach’s matchday press conference on Wednesday afternoon. “But that’s for the league to decide,” Eberl continued, “we assume that the game will take place on Friday. “

He had exchanged views with both the DFL and Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic, Eberl further reported. “The Bundesliga ultimately decides whether the match takes place or not,” coach Adi Hütter also said. The Austrian will continue to prepare his team as usual for the scheduled kick-off.

There has been no official notification from Bayern that they have asked the DFL to postpone the match. Such a request can be made if “there are not at least 16 licensed players eligible to play and/or amateurs/contract players eligible to play in the licensed team.” In addition to the Corona-related absences, Bayern are also missing Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (Cameroon) and Bouna Sarr (Senegal), who are away with their respective national teams at the Africa Cup.
