DTM-BoP Hockenheim: Change for Sunday for Mercedes-AMG GT3

After the disappointing Saturday at Hockenheim, the Balance of Performance will be adjusted in favor of the Mercedes-AMG teams on Sunday at Hockenheim

Second change to the Balance of Performance (BoP) at the DTM season finale at Hockenheim: after the Porsche, Lamborghini and Audi were made heavier after Saturday’s qualifying, the Mercedes-AMG teams are now allowed to unload weight for Sunday. The front-engined bolide will weigh five kilograms less from qualifying onwards.

The change is a reaction to the first day of racing, where HRT driver Luca Stolz finished eighth from tenth on the grid as the best driver for the brand with the star. The disappointment was palpable in the Mercedes camp on Sunday evening as well and an adjustment was expected.

However, there were also doubts as to whether such a small change would make a big difference.

Besides Manthey-EMA-Porsche favorite Thomas Preining, who could already crown himself champion on Sunday with pole, only SSR-Lamborghini driver Mirko Bortolotti can still count on theoretical title chances before the last race day of the season. For Mercedes-AMG, it’s still all about the third win of the season after Landgraf driver Maro Engel at Zandvoort and Stolz at the Sachsenring.
