Following criticism from Abt and Grasser, Lamborghini has now been reclassified: What effect this should have and what changes for Aston Martin
Following criticism from the Lamborghini camp regarding the Balance of Performance (BoP) and team boss Gottfried Grasser’s statements that the BoP officials at SRO Motorsports Group had been misled by the ADAC GT Masters, the DTM classification at the Lausitzring for Sunday (all information on TV times, stream, etc.) has indeed been changed.
The changes affect the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 and the Aston Martin Vantage GT3 Evo: The Grasser team, Abt and the Paul team will be allowed to remove 15 kilograms of ballast from the Lamborghini’s weight box on Sunday.
This means that the Huracan GT3 Evo2 now weighs 1,340 kilograms. According to Grasser’s calculations, which state that 25 kilograms make up three tenths at the Lausitzring, this should result in an improvement of around two tenths per lap at the Lausitzring.
Thanks to the short time intervals, the Italian mid-engine sports car should at least be within striking distance of the leaders. “In the race, we were missing three or four tenths every lap,” said Grasser after Saturday’s race.
The classification of the direct rivals remains unchanged on Sunday, with only the Aston Martin, which is also at the back of the field this weekend, receiving more power once again.
The boost pressure in the low rev range of the cars driven by Comtoyou drivers Gilles Magnus and Nicolas Baert will be increased by 0.04 bar, after they were already allowed to rev higher after qualifying for Saturday’s race. It will be interesting to see whether this will enable them to break into the midfield on Sunday.
The race trucks could once again provide a change of fortune, as their tires seem to be perfectly suited to the Pirelli tires used on the GT3 cars and have already produced some fabulous times in the ADAC GT Masters. On Sunday, the DTM qualifying will take place immediately after the European Truck Racing Championship, which means that strong times and a lot of action can be expected in the early stages.
This could also have an impact on the balance of power, as the BMW M4 GT3 Evo, for example, seems to suffer more than other cars when grip levels are low. Incidentally, the two Mercedes-AMG drivers Lucas Auer (+20 kg) and Maro Engel (+10 kg) and BMW driver Rene Rast (+5 kg) will be carrying extra weight in the race.
