Doubles Krawietz/Mies reach last 16 in Melbourne

Melbourne – The tennis doubles pair of Kevin Krawietz and Andreas Mies have reached the last 16 of the Australian Open together for the first time.

The two-time French Open winners in doubles competition won their second-round match 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 6-4 against Americans Austin Krajicek/Sam Querrey in Melbourne. They were unable to use a match point in the tiebreak of the second set. In the round of the best 16, the duo will face fifth seed John Peers from Australia and Filip Polasek from Slovakia. Krawietz and Mies are number twelve in the seedings.

In 2019 and 2020, Krawietz from Coburg and Mies from Cologne celebrated the title together at the French Open in Paris. Last season, the two were unable to compete together due to a knee operation by Mies. At the Australian Open, Krawietz/Mies previously only played together in 2020, but lost in the first round.
