Donnarumma: “I just laughed when I looked on social media”

Much has been written and spoken about Gianluigi Donnarumma in recent days and hours. Following Paris’ 2-0 Champions League win over Manchester City, where the Italian European champion played once again, the 22-year-old has now come forward with some clear words.

As suspected, Paris coach Mauricio Pochettino had let his second strong keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma take the field from the start this Tuesday night. Keylor Navas, so far often preferred as number 1, was out this time.
And apart from a little uncertainty after a Kevin De Bruyne cross, Donnarumma, who joined PSG on a free transfer this summer after six years as AC Milan’s regular keeper, was attentive, making a number of saves to help his team celebrate a 2-0 win over Pep Guardiola-coached ManCity in their first ever victory over the Skyblues.

Donnarumma speaks plainly

Afterwards, as before, the talk turned to Donnarumma himself, who, according to media reports, has been unhappy with his few appearances in a PSG shirt so far.

And the goalkeeper, who at the age of 16 has already risen to become a Serie A regular and Gianluigi Buffon’s successor in the Italian national goal, clearly denied these rumours. For the first time ever, Donnarumma expressed his own view of things – and spoke the following clear sentences into the microphone of “Sky Sport Italia”: “People have written on social media that I might want to leave Paris again, because Navas started last … I just laughed there when I looked on social media.”

He continued, “It’s all full of fake news! I’m totally happy here at PSG. Let them talk – the club supports me!”
