Djokovic on relationship with Kyrgios: “Respect him a lot”.

From Novak Djokovic’s point of view, the previously strained relationship with Wimbledon final opponent Nick Kyrgios has also improved due to the latter’s support for the Serb in the vaccination debate.

“When it was really tough for me in Australia, he was one of the few players who came out publicly and supported me and stood by me,” the defending champion said ahead of Sunday’s final against the Australian. “That’s something I really appreciate. I respect him a lot for that.”

The 27-year-old Kyrgios had initially criticised Djokovic, eight years his senior, in no uncertain terms for his behaviour during the Corona pandemic. However, when the unvaccinated Serb was denied entry to Australia earlier this year, he received support from Kyrgios.

Kyrgios speaks of “bromance “

The Australian had previously said that he and Djokovic now share a kind of “bromance”, a friendly relationship between men. “I don’t know if I can call it a bromance yet, but we definitely have a better relationship than it was before January this year,” Djokovic said after his four-set semi-final win over Britain’s Cameron Norrie. The 20-time Grand Slam tournament winner is seeking his seventh Wimbledon title.

Djokovic dodged a question about a bottle, the contents of which he inhaled in his round of 16 win over Dutchman Tim van Rijthoven, saying. “Magic potion. That’s all I can say. It helps,” the Serb said. “You will find out soon, but I can’t talk about it now. “
