Djokovic can plan French Open participation

Paris – Nothing stands in the way of unvaccinated Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic taking part in the French Open, which begins at the end of May, following a relaxation of French Corona requirements. This was said by the organisers of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, as reported by “L’Équipe”.

The restriction that only vaccinated athletes and spectators can compete was lifted this Monday with the majority of the remaining Corona rules in France. “As things stand, there is nothing to prevent Djokovic from participating in the French Open,” tournament director Amélie Mauresmo told a French Open press conference.

Djokovic was unable to defend his title at the Australian Open at the beginning of the tennis year because he was not vaccinated against the corona virus and therefore did not receive an entry permit. He will also be unable to play in the current Masters tournament in Indian Wells and the following event in Miami, as the USA refuses entry to non-vaccinated players.

According to the President of the French Tennis Federation, Gilles Moretton, the virus is still circulating and caution must be exercised, reported “L’Équipe”. Should the Corona regulations be tightened again, one would not be excluded from it.
