“Didn’t act in the right way” – Aegerter reacts to controversy in Most

Supersport World Champion Dominique Aegerter shows remorse and blames great pressure for his behaviour after the start accident in Most

Dominique Aegerter travelled to the Supersport World Championship in Most (Czech Republic) with great expectations and wanted to make history with a tenth consecutive victory. But after the Swiss rider crashed through no fault of his own at the start of the first race, events came to a head.

On Sunday it turned out that Aegerter deliberately stayed down after the crash in order to force a race cancellation (more background). The race was continued, Aegerter put himself and the marshals in great danger. The race stewards agreed to suspend Aegerter for one race.

Thus, the Ten-Kate rider could not participate in the second race and did not collect a single point in Most, while World Championship rival Lorenzo Baldassarri took maximum advantage of the situation, winning both races and reducing the gap in the World Championship from 64 to 14 points.

Dominique Aegerter refrains from interviews on Sunday

Aegerter made himself scarce on Sunday and gave no interviews. He only commented on the incidents via a message: “First of all, I am sorry for the whole situation that arose after the incident in race 1. As it was a very hectic situation, I did not act properly and made mistakes. “

“There was a lot of pressure, adrenaline and emotion. I never meant to put other people in danger: I want to apologise for that,” Aegerter shows remorse. “The championship is not over yet, we are now concentrating on the second part of the season where I will work very hard together with the team to give the best possible performance every time.”

“I want to thank the team and all the sponsors, my family, my friends and fans and everyone else for their unconditional support. We will never give up and we will see each other again at Magny-Cours,” said the World Supersport Championship leader.

Ten Kate backs Supersport World Champion

Ten Kate team manager Kervin Bos comes to his rider’s defence: “For Dominique it is of course extremely unfortunate what happened in this situation. It is clear that many factors contributed to it. Ten Kate Racing is not called ‘Team Rocky’ for nothing, because we always get back up. And we will do the same this time.”

“We accept this setback and we will work hard to return to Magny-Cours stronger than ever after the summer break,” promises the Ten Kate team manager.
