The Mid-Season Invitational is over for G2. In the first round of the lower bracket, the Berlin team lost decisively to US representative FlyQuest.
After G2 made it to the final round of the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) via the play-ins, their defeat in the upper bracket against top favorites Gen.G was to be expected. However, the LEC representative was at least able to achieve a respectable result by winning the first round. From a European perspective, there was still hope when the quintet fought against FlyQuest in the lower bracket to remain in the tournament.
However, the optimism did not last long. BrokenBlade, Caps, and Co. struggled to get into the game against the Americans. In the Fearless Draft, in which each champion can only be used once, the opponents proved to be more adaptable and ultimately won 3-0.
Worlds trend confirmed
Once again, Europe has been defeated by America. This is a trend that was already apparent at Worlds 2024. Back then, FlyQuest made it through the Swiss Stage somewhat surprisingly and lost 2-3 to Gen.G in the quarterfinals in a very close match.
At MSI, the LTA North representative will now face the loser of the duel between T1 and Bilibili Gaming (BLG). The winner of this high-class match will face Gen.G and battle it out with the South Koreans for a place in the final.
MKOI last LEC hope
Movistar KOI is the last LEC iron in the MSI fire. However, the Spanish team goes into Saturday evening’s clash with Flying Oister (9 p.m.) as the underdog after losing 1-3 to BLG. After all, the Taiwanese team put up a strong performance against T1 and brought the team led by LoL legend ‘Faker’ to the brink of defeat in a hotly contested 2-3 match.
