Following the Supercup in Munich, national coach Alex Mumbru has made his next personnel decision. Christian Anderson is leaving the DBB team, while Justus Hollatz’s chances of a place in the European Championship have increased significantly.
After finishing second in the Supercup in Munich, national coach Alex Mumbru has taken the next step on the road to EuroBasket 2025. According to Rupert Fabig, the Spaniard will not be including youngster Christian Anderson Jr. in his squad for the rest of the season.
The 19-year-old point guard had only made his debut in the national jersey this summer and was already considered a surprise nomination. Anderson is now returning to the US, where he will prepare for the upcoming college season with Texas Tech. The German-American would most likely have only been used as a substitute at the European Championships.
Who else will be cut?
Justus Hollatz will benefit most from this decision. In the test games so far, the Hamburg native has been used as the first backup for captain Dennis Schröder – also because Maodo Lo is still struggling with fitness problems. After the 2023 World Cup triumph, it would be the second major tournament for Hollatz.
It remains exciting to see who will not make the final cut in the German squad. Guard Nelson Weidemann (ratiopharm Ulm) is considered a possible candidate for elimination. In addition, Leon Kratzer’s knee injury, sustained in the Super Cup semi-final against Turkey, could pave the way for his future teammate Oscar da Silva.
