Jannik Sinner turns 24 and gives himself a present at the ATP Masters. But even before the match, he receives a gift.
On his 24th birthday, tennis star Jannik Sinner celebrated reaching the final of the ATP Masters in Cincinnati once again. The world number one and defending champion from Italy defeated tournament surprise Térence Atmane from France 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 to advance to the final without losing a set in his preparations for the US Open.
Even before the match, there was a funny scene between the opponents. Atmane was already waiting for Sinner in the tunnel when he pulled a small item out of his pocket and presented the top star with a special Pokémon card for his birthday. Sinner was amazed for a moment, then laughed and put the card in his pocket. Atmane has one of the largest Pokémon collections in France.
Terence Atmane just gave Jannik Sinner a Pokémon card on his birthday right before they walked out for their match in Cincinnati.
Love this. ❤️

“I’m very happy to be back in the final,” said Sinner, who recorded his 26th consecutive victory on hard court against the world number 136: “Let’s see what happens now.” In his 28th final on the ATP Tour, the four-time Grand Slam winner will face Germany’s top star Alexander Zverev or Carlos Alcaraz (Spain), who will play the second semifinal at the $9.2 million event on Saturday night (not before midnight CEST).
The 23-year-old Atmane, who qualified for the semifinals, knocked out US star Taylor Fritz and Denmark’s Holger Rune, among others, on his way to the final four. “He has huge potential,” Sinner said of Atmane. In his first duel with Sinner, he managed to keep the first set close, but after breaking to 3-1 in the second set, the top favorite did not let victory slip away. After Sinner converted his third match point, fans in the stands sang “Happy Birthday” to him.
