Having only just made his Europa League debut with an assist and praise from his manager, Kamil Grabara now faces a long spell on the sidelines: the Juventus keeper, on loan from VfL Wolfsburg, has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
In Serie A, Kamil Grabara had to settle for a place behind Guglielmo Vicario (29) at the start of the season; in the Europa League, however, the 27-year-old recently made his competitive debut for the Old Lady and even picked up an assist in the 5–0 win over NEC Nijmegen – a match in which Nick Woltemade also scored – earning special praise from the manager: “When the opposition press like that, the goalkeeper becomes an extra player. If, thanks to him, you find a free player in midfield, important opportunities open up,” emphasised Luciano Spalletti after the match.
Now, however, the 1.95-metre-tall goalkeeper has suffered a bitter setback and will have to watch from the sidelines for a long time. Grabara, whom the Italian record champions signed on loan from VfL Wolfsburg at the start of the season, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training. Juventus announced this on Saturday evening. The club emphasised that the length of his absence is still unknown and that “the treatment plan will be finalised” in the coming days.
The Polish international goalkeeper (six caps), who was relegated to the second division with VfL Wolfsburg last season, has already had various stints abroad during his career. Among others, Grabara has previously been part of the squads at Aarhus GF, Huddersfield Town, Liverpool FC and FC Copenhagen.
