Collarbone fracture: Lukas Tulovic successfully operated on in New Delhi

Moto2 rider Lukas Tulovic has undergone surgery after suffering a broken collarbone in practice – IntactGP target comeback for Indonesia

After a twelfth place finish on Friday in India, Lukas Tulovic’s hopes were high for a direct entry into Q2. But a crash in the third Moto2 practice session on Saturday morning put paid to the IntactGP rider’s ambitions.

The 23-year-old broke his left collarbone in the crash and underwent surgery at Apollo Hospital Jasol in New Delhi to fix the fracture with a plate.

On Instagram, the German posted a picture from the hospital and the words: “Not the end to what was, until then, a super weekend, which we deserved.” However, he said the operation went “perfectly”. “Many thanks to the MotoGP medical team and the hospital doctors, it was all very professional.”

At the track, IntactGP team manager Jürgen Lingg told ServusTV what had happened. For the crash was not shown in the TV picture. “He had a pretty violent highsider and broke his left collarbone,” he said.

“But it’s a straight fracture and it needs to be fixed now. The ligaments and everything seem to be okay, which is very positive. Maybe it will work out for Indonesia. Japan will certainly not work out,” Lingg said of Tulovic possible return.

To have such a fall, including injury, happen just now, after such a promising start to the weekend, was “super tough” in an “already mixed season”.

“I have the feeling that every time we see a little light at the end of the tunnel, we get hit again. That has to stop at some point now. I feel incredibly sorry for Lukas and the whole team, but unfortunately that’s racing – it’s not always fair,” says the team manager.
