Christopher Mies suggests: Why not a big festival at every race?

The Lausitzring weekend of the 2022 ADAC GT Masters attracts fans with an extensive supporting programme – Christopher Mies would like to see more events like this

In order to tap into a new audience in the wake of the new competitive situation with the DTM, the ADAC GT Masters has launched the so-called Family-&-Friends-Festival at the Lausitzring. The spectacle, where the whole family can visit several themed areas for five euros admission, will debut in August.

Christopher Mies, reigning German GT champion, suggests making such a festival the new normal on race days. This was prompted by a question from an Instagram user about the competition from the DTM. A situation that is a “very difficult topic for Mies, politically and also for me [personally]”.

“This closeness and the family environment, also between the drivers”, Mies points out as an advantage of the ADAC GT Masters and admits to having “a lot of fun” in the more traditional of the two GT3 racing series.

With a view to the extensive fan festival in August, Mies directly asks the question in his Instagram story: “Why isn’t there one at every race?” and justifies this with the fact that “people don’t just want to see GT3 cars drive around in circles for an hour, they want to be entertained”.

The Family & Friends Festival in Lausitz attracts visitors with different themed worlds from the areas of motoring, technology, outdoor, wellness, entertainment for children and adults, as well as catering. Among other things, the programme includes the opportunity to test various vehicle models and a look behind the scenes at the Dekra Technology Centre.

The Lausitzring weekend on 20/21 August is one of a total of seven race weekends on the 2022 ADAC GT Masters calendar. In the DTM, supporting programmes are also nothing unknown to fans. For example, until the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, there were regular music concerts at the race weekends. In the 2021 season, a DJ provided the atmosphere on the grid.

While his champion teammate Ricardo Feller will compete in the Abt Audi in the DTM next season, Mies will remain loyal to “his” series. He will probably be back in the Land Audi in 2022 to defend his title in the ADAC GT Masters and continue to have “a lot of fun” in the process.
