Sébastien Ogier is aiming for his tenth world championship title—the Toyota driver will compete in all remaining WRC rallies of the season
Sébastien Ogier plans to compete in the four remaining rounds of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in his quest for a record-breaking tenth world title—starting with the Rally Paraguay in late August.
The news comes just a few days after the reigning world champion, while leading the Rally Finland, was involved in a high-speed crash. Ogier and his interim co-driver, Julien Ingrassia, were able to exit the vehicle on their own but were taken to the hospital for precautionary examinations, where they stayed overnight before being released.
After his retirement from the Rally Finland, Ogier dropped to fifth place in the World Championship standings—62 points behind the leader and his Toyota teammate Elfyn Evans.
Ogier had previously indicated that his part-time program this year would consist of only ten rounds, one fewer than last year. However, the desire to win a record-breaking tenth World Championship title prompted the 42-year-old to consider expanding his schedule—a decision that has now been confirmed.
“After a great run of results, Rally Finland obviously didn’t go as planned, and our hopes for the championship are more or less gone. Nevertheless, there are still four rounds left this season, and Vincent Landais and I will be there—with only one goal: to win them all,” Ogier said in a social media post.
The reigning world champion will once again be supported by his longtime co-driver, Vincent Landais, in the season’s final stretch. Landais was absent in Finland for personal reasons, which led Ogier’s former co-driver, Ingrassia, to come out of retirement for what is expected to be a one-time appearance.
Ogier’s Toyota teammate Sami Pajari secured the victory after the Frenchman’s crash and led the team to a one-two-three finish ahead of Oliver Solberg and Elfyn Evans, who rounded out the podium.
