Cech also leaves Chelsea

The next prominent member of the club’s staff to leave Chelsea FC is Petr Cech (40).

The former goalkeeper, who returned to his long-time club as technical advisor in 2019, is stepping down from his post on June 30.

The rebuilding that began with the end of the Abramovich era thus continues. Last week, chief executive Bruce Buck and sporting director Marina Granovskaia had already left their posts.

“Now that the club has new owners, it is the right time for me to vacate my seat,” Cech was quoted as saying in the club’s statement on Monday. He said he was “confident” that Chelsea would continue to celebrate success on and off the pitch.

Boehly understands Cech’s decision

“Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision,” said Todd Boehly, who took over Chelsea with a group of investors.

Cech, who spent 11 years at Stamford Bridge as a player and won 13 titles, had worked closely with Granovskaia. The new sporting director is temporarily the new club boss Boehly himself. A full-time successor to Granovskaia is currently being sought.
