Manchester United vs Derby County Preview

Lampard jumped into managerial waters this season. His first team Derby County are doing really well in the Championship. The Rams are currently sixth and are coming off a weekend 3-1 win versus Brentford. Meanwhile, Manchester United played a disappointing 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton to drop to seventh in the Premier League.

While The Red Devils enter the Carabao Cup at this stage, Derby had to eliminate Oldham (2-0) and Hull City (4-0) to get to this point. They will face an uphill battle against a Manchester United team which has won 14 of their last 15 League Cup third round matches and a manager who enjoys knockout competitions.

“I like the feeling of the knockout,”

“You win, you are in the competition; you lose, you are out. I like that pressure and honestly, I think fans also like it.”

Last season, Mourinho’s team reached the quarter-finals, where it suffered a shock defeat to Bristol City.

Frank Lampard is looking forward to squaring off against the Portuguese manager who had a profound influence on his Chelsea career.

“[Mourinho] is a manager who was hugely influential on my career twice – but particularly the first time around,”

“I respect him completely for that. You will find Jose Mourinho’s players being managers all over the place because he has been so successful in his career.”

He realizes Manchester United’s quality and simply hopes his players give their best.

“They’re expected to win, quite rightly so with the squad they’ve amassed there. It’s a challenge for us and we want to go there and do as well as we can.”
