“Can follow in Nowitzki’s footsteps”: Tony Parker raves about Wagner

Ex-NBA star Tony Parker believes Franz Wagner has a bright future ahead of him. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, the four-time NBA champion praised the German national player and sees him following in the footsteps of Dirk Nowitzki.

At the NBA game in Paris, Parker talked about the German basketball miracle of 2023: “They’re both playing very well in Orlando. I was very happy for them and for German basketball when they won the World Cup title,” the former Spurs playmaker said of Franz and Moritz Wagner.

Parker is likely to develop particularly well, according to Franz Wagner: “He can make it into the All-Star team, that’s the next step for him. I think it’s possible that one day he will follow in Dirk’s footsteps. Even though it will be very difficult.”

Nowitzki the best European of all time for Parker

The 41-year-old Frenchman, who, as a point guard, shaped an era together with Tim Duncan at the San Antonio Spurs, has a clear opinion when it comes to the best European player in history: “Dirk Nowitzki. He could do everything. He was the first big player to be able to shoot three-pointers, he could shoot one-legged, he carried his franchise for many years. He was the best.”
