Bristol City transfer news: Sheffield Wednesday defender Jack Hunt set to join The Robins

27-year-old experienced right back Jack Hunt is set to undergo a medical before officially joining Championship side Bristol City in what is believed to be a €1.8 million deal.

Who is Jack Hunt?

Hunt came up from the Huddersfield Town academy, where he spent a total of ten years as a youth member and then four years as a senior member. In 2013, he joined English Premier League Side Crystal Palace, but failed to make an impression. He didn’t spend a single minute on the pitch for The Eagles. Instead, he was loaned out to Barnsley, Nottingham Forest, Rotheram United and Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls were his last stop. After making 19 appearances for the club as a loaned player, he made 66 more as an everyday starter in the subsequent seasons.

Jack Hunt is a reliable performer who struggled to make the step up to the Premier League, but has been a consistent player at the lower level. His main position is right back, although he was often employed as a wing back in SWFC’s formation. He’s a pacy player who likes getting forward and could’ve developed into a decent Premier League footballer if it weren’t for injuries and a cocky attitude.

Bristol City FC

This will be Bristol City FC’s fifth summer signing. Lee Johnson already brought Ipswich defender Adam Webster, Derby forward Andreas Weimann, Norwich winger Marley Watkins and Scunthorpe winger Hakeeb Adelakun to a squad that’s going to try to improve on last season’s 11th place finish. These reinforcements were needed after the Ashton Gate club lost three important members of the starting lineup in center backs Hordur Magnusson and Aden Flint, as well as attacking midfielder Bobby Reid, who joined newly-promoted Cardiff. Bristol City still has money left from those transfers, so Jack Hunt shouldn’t be the end of their summer dealings.

Owlstalk

Fans on Sheffield Wednesday’s Owlstalk forum aren’t terribly disappointed to lose Jack Hunt, but do believe they’re losing a quality defensive option. – “Fair play if true, not too gutted about losing him. Although it does mean losing considerable pace in an already lacking squad. When pace is so key in modern football.”

– “Odd one this. In a back three come five he was my first choice right wing back. Easily.”

“Not hard to be first choice with our options though”

“Need better”

– “No big loss… always found good positions but jeeess his final ball was woeful.”

Regardless of how it turns out at the end, Jack Hunt will be Bristol City’s starter at right back from day one. If he’s consistent, his price tag will be a bargain for The Robins.
