Boxing World Championships: Early exit for Schachidov

Four male DBV starters have already been eliminated in Liverpool. Maxi Klötzer survives her opening bout.

Olympic starter Magomed Schachidov is the fourth of six German boxers at the World Championships in Liverpool to be eliminated after his opening bout. The 30-year-old lost clearly on points to Spain’s Frank Martinez Bernad in the 70 kg weight class. Before Schachidov, Denis Bril (up to 65 kg), Ben Ehis (up to 80 kg), and Ammar Abduljabbar (up to 85 kg) had already been eliminated. Olympic competitor Maxi Klötzer (up to 51 kg), on the other hand, made it to the round of 16 with a victory over Bulgaria’s Wenelina Poptolewa. Yasse Cisse (up to 90 kg) and Nikita Putilov (over 90 kg) are also in the round of 16 after their opening victories. Tatjana Obermeier (up to 54 kg) and Leonie Müller (up to 70 kg) are also competing for the German Boxing Association (DBV) in the first World Championships (until September 14) organized by the new World Boxing Association. Nelvie Tiafack, who won bronze at the Olympics, has since turned professional.

World Boxing was provisionally recognized as the new world governing body by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in February 2025 following the scandals surrounding the long-standing IBA. World Boxing will be responsible for the boxing competitions at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
