Before the clash against Alcaraz: Zverev criticises scheduling

Paris – Before the quarter-final clash against Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev has criticised the scheduling at the French Open and complained about preferential treatment for the Spanish tennis prodigy.

“Alcaraz plays almost every match on Court Philippe Chatrier. Of course he is the new superstar, he is the new face of tennis and it is nice to see something new,” said Zverev. “But it should be a bit more divided who plays when.”

Zverev will play Alcaraz on Tuesday in the battle for a place in the semi-finals, having last lost clearly to him in the Madrid final. In the French Open so far, the 19-year-old Spaniard has played three times in the venue’s biggest stadium, while Zverev has only played once.

“It’s already very obvious in which direction it’s going to go and who the tournament wants to have continue,” Zverev said. “It’s a pity for me because I’ve also played here very, very often and I’m also number three in the world.” The Olympic champion particularly complained that there was no communication with him at all about the scheduling. Alcaraz, he said, was an exceptional player. “But I have the feeling that the other players are being left out a bit,” Zverev said.
