FC Bayern Munich maintained its unbeaten record in the third game of the new BBL season. On Sunday evening, Munich secured a clear 96-79 victory against Veolia Towers Hamburg, who are still without a win.
Despite extensive rotation and resting stars such as captain Lucic, Oscar da Silva, and Stefan Jovic, the champions put in a composed performance and gave their guests from the north no chance for long stretches.
Bayern laid the foundation for success in the first quarter. Andi Obst (8 points) scored early from outside, and all the starters were able to score quickly. After ten minutes, the score was a clear 30-17. Hamburg struggled to find their rhythm offensively and missed all five of their three-point attempts.
Towers fight back, Bayern ice cold
In the second quarter, the Towers briefly fought their way back to within four points, led by Justin Edler-Davis (12), but a strong run led by David McCormack (12) restored the old lead. Bayern led 47-35 at halftime. The pattern remained the same after the break: Hamburg closed the gap at times, but the reigning champions responded coolly time and again, especially through Obst and Xavier Rathan-Mayes (18, 5 assists), who scored from outside at crucial moments.
In the final quarter, the champions played out the game confidently. Hamburg shot at a high percentage from outside, but Munich had the right answer to every run. The defending champions ultimately won 96-79, ending their intense start to the season with a good record.
