Bayer, Inter & Co.: These European teams are already champions

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are German champions for the first time – and were in a hurry to win the trophy. There are a few other teams across Europe that are also already champions

79 points after 29 match days were enough for the Werkself to clinch the first German championship in the club’s history. However, Bayer 04 is not the only club in Europe to have already popped the championship corks.

Slovan Bratislava have already snatched the crown in Slovakia – with five match days to go, the Slovakian record champions are already a whopping 16 points ahead of rivals Spartak Trnava. It is Slovan’s 22nd championship in the club’s history

The record champions are also celebrating in Azerbaijan and Wales

In Wales, the record champions also triumphed once again, while the New Saints once again dominated the Welsh Premier League, impressively defending their title from the previous year. Like Bayer 04, the club from Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain is unbeaten this season and has won 20 of its 22 league games so far. TNS have also lifted the cup and are in the final against league runners-up Connah’s Quay Nomads.

There is also Qarabag Agdam, who did not let themselves down in Azerbaijan and won their eleventh championship. Although there are still six matchdays to play in the Caucasian country, Qarabag’s lead over their closest rivals Neftchi Baku is already a whopping 25 points.

Another champion from the top European leagues, Inter Milan, has been confirmed since Monday evening. The Nerazzurri celebrated a 2:1 derby victory over Milan and can no longer be caught with five matchdays to go in the season

Lack of excitement in the top leagues? England is the exception

In the other European countries, the decision has not yet been made, even if it is not really exciting everywhere. Looking at the top leagues in France, it seems only a matter of time before PSG clinch the title – the Parisians have an eleven-point lead over closest rivals Monaco.

In Spain, Real Madrid won the Clasico 3:2 on Saturday evening, extending their lead over FC Barcelona to eleven points. Six matchdays before the end of the season, this is likely to be a decider.

The situation looks very different in England. A three-way battle is raging there between Manchester City (73 points), Arsenal FC (74) and Liverpool FC (74) – it could remain exciting until the season finale
