Australia disaster has financial consequences for Djokovic

Novak Djokovic will miss the first Grand Slam tournament of the year. His participation in the French Open could also become a problem. The tennis star is missing out on a lot of money as a result.

Novak Djokovic travelled to Australia as world number one. As is well known, he was not allowed to stay. Due to the drama “Down Under”, the image of the tennis star has suffered. In conversations with t-online, experts have already said that Djokovic must expect sponsors to turn away.

In addition, he now has to accept high losses – and even the prize money that was firmly calculated will not end up in his account. In total, the Serb will lose more than three million euros. The sum is made up of several factors such as prize money, penalty costs, flight costs and boarding fees.

Winner receives prize money of 2.5 million euros

Novak Djokovic would have received 2.5 million euros just for winning the Grand Slam tournament. Even if he had lost the final, he would have already won just under 1.5 million euros.

In addition, according to “Bild”, the tennis pro would have to pay a fine of around 315,000 euros for his expulsion alone. In addition, there would be legal costs (200,000), flight costs (40,000) and food costs (4,000) for the time in Australia. In addition, the 20-time Grand Slam winner is said to have rented a house in which he would have stayed during the time of the tournament, according to “Bild”. The newspaper calculated this sum at around 8,000 euros.

As things stand, the Serb would not be allowed to take part in the French Open. This is because only vaccinated athletes are allowed to compete at Roland Garros in May. Djokovic would then miss out on up to 1.6 million euros. In 2021 he could still win the prize money.

The bitterest loss for Djokovic, however, would be giving up the top spot in the world rankings. Should Alexander Zverev or Daniil Medvedev win, this is exactly what would happen in February.
