After two years with Eintracht Frankfurt, Aurele Amenda is leaving the Eagles and heading to England. The move could net Eintracht a hefty sum.
Aurele Amenda only truly became a regular toward the end of his time at Eintracht Frankfurt. His coach, Albert Riera, relied on the 22-year-old, who is nevertheless moving on. As had already been hinted at, the Swiss World Cup veteran is joining Premier League newcomer Coventry City. His new club did not disclose any details of the transfer fee, but reports suggest it amounts to 20 million euros, including bonuses—more than the club has ever paid for a player before. Amenda has signed a long-term contract with Coventry.
“We would like to thank Aurele for his dedication while wearing the Eintracht Frankfurt jersey. He always conducted himself professionally and put the team first,” said sporting director Markus Krösche in bidding farewell to the center back, who had already been signed from BSC Young Boys in January 2024 but remained in Bern for another half-year—where he promptly celebrated the Swiss championship.
Brings international experience
In Frankfurt, however, his definitive breakthrough never really materialized. After just 13 competitive appearances in 2024–25, he made a total of 29 last season. At the very least, the 1.94-meter giant brings with him to England the experience of four appearances in the Europa League and five in the Champions League.
“After my first conversation with the manager, I felt his trust and I liked the project, so I think this is a really good move for me,” Amenda says, expressing his excitement about his move to England. “I’m really looking forward to playing in this beautiful stadium, getting to know the fans, celebrating with them, and winning with them. I’d also like to score a goal here, so I can’t wait to get started.”
To the Championship champions
At Coventry, Amenda will be reunited with manager Frank Lampard, who led the team—then at the top of the Championship standings—back to England’s top flight for the first time in 25 years. Amenda is the third new signing so far for the Premier League’s founding member ahead of the new season. Among others, the club has already signed Frank Onyeka (formerly of FC Augsburg), another familiar face from the Bundesliga.
