Allergic reaction to insect bite: Pedro Acosta in hospital after GP

Pedro Acosta has to go to hospital after the Assen race – but the allergic reaction quickly subsided – The KTM rider is allowed to go home

Pedro Acosta fought long and hard in Assen for his first podium finish of the 2025 MotoGP season. The KTM rider worked his way up to third place. But when Marc Marquez (Ducati) and Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) picked up the pace, things became a little more difficult for Acosta.

He was initially overtaken by Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati). Acosta managed to keep up with Bagnaia in the following laps, but lost touch in the final laps. He ultimately missed out on the podium by three and a half seconds.

Shortly after the race, KTM announced that Acosta would not be attending the interview sessions. The 21-year-old had to go to hospital due to an allergic reaction to a bee or wasp sting.

Acosta was initially given an antihistamine injection at the track’s medical center to alleviate his allergic reaction. He was then taken to the Wilhelmina Hospital in Assen for further observation.

KTM has since confirmed that the situation has eased. All symptoms have now subsided and Acosta has been given the green light to leave the hospital and travel home.

As Acosta did not give any interviews after the race, there are no statements from him yet on how he views the contact with Alex Marquez (Gresini-Ducati) and how he assesses the battle in the leading group.

Team manager Aki Ajo said after the race: “There were some sections of this track where we struggled, but we also know that with harder tires on Sunday, we are closer to the front.”

“Pedro’s race was very strong – he attacked from the start, which was the key. The podium wasn’t far away, but we need to take a closer look at the tire degradation. Overall, we are continuing our positive trend.”

Behind Acosta, Maverick Vinales finished fifth as the second-best KTM rider. They started from ninth and tenth on the grid. “If you don’t start the race from the first two rows, it’s difficult to fight for podium places,” said Ajo, addressing the team’s qualifying weakness.
