Sophie Alisch has decided to take up a completely different sport—road cycling. She explains her reasons right away.
Former professional boxer Sophie Alisch cites problems in her former sport as one of the reasons for her switch to road cycling.
“Women’s boxing is currently in a kind of recession, with development on the decline,” Alisch told the news portal web.de News: “Fighting two or three times a year wasn’t enough for me.”
The prospects in road cycling are better, so she decided to make a fresh start after ten successful professional boxing matches. “I became more and more interested in women’s cycling and saw how strongly everything is developing there at the moment,” said the 23-year-old.
Alisch: Aiming for the 2028 Olympics
“A lot more is being done for women there; it’s a world away from boxing.” She has also accepted financial losses in return. “Many people asked me if I was crazy. But for me, it was clear: I want to be happy and do what fulfills me,” said Alisch.
She has set herself the goal of participating in the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. “I’m not competing in cycling just to be there. I want success,” said Alisch. She has already received initial inquiries from interested teams, and there is no Plan B: “For me, there is only Plan A. I am 100 percent committed to this step. This is my path.”
