Alexander Zverev continues without problems

The next opponent also felt the strength of Alexander Zverev. The German tennis star defeated the Australian John Millman. The Olympic champion is now through to the next round at the Australian Open.

Alexander Zverev has reached the third round of the Australian Open for the sixth time in a row in his title hunt in Melbourne. The 24-year-old Olympic champion from Hamburg left no doubt about the winner in his duel with local hero John Millman, winning 6:4, 6:4, 6:0. He will now face qualifier Radu Albot from Moldova.

After the involuntary departure of Novak Djokovic before the start of the tournament, Zverev is one of the big title favourites alongside Daniil Medvedev and 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal. Nadal, 35, from Majorca, proved his strong form in a 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 win over Karlsruhe’s Yannick Hanfmann on Wednesday.

Before that, Dominik Koepfer and Oscar Otte had already been eliminated. Koepfer, who was born in the Black Forest, was beaten 4-6, 3-6, 6-7 (4-7) by US giant Reilly Opelka (No. 23), while Otte, who is from Cologne, missed out on a place in the third round after losing 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 1-6 to Italian Lorenzo Sonego, who was seeded 25th.
