Carlos Alcaraz defeats Russia’s Andrey Rublev in three sets. The Spaniard could face Alexander Zverev in the semifinals.
Carlos Alcaraz has reached the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Cincinnati, where he is a potential opponent for Alexander Zverev. The world number two from Spain defeated Russia’s Andrey Rublev 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. The German tennis ace will play Ben Shelton (USA) on Saturday night for a place in the last four.
If the Hamburg native wins his quarterfinal, it will be his first duel with the top star this year. The two last faced each other at the ATP Finals in November 2024, with Zverev emerging victorious. At last year’s tournament in Cincinnati, the Spaniard was knocked out in the second round. Zverev reached the semi-finals, where he lost to world number one Jannik Sinner.
