With a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Alex de Minaur, the Spaniard claimed his second tournament title since returning from injury.

Carlos Alcaraz gave Zverev’s conqueror, Alex de Minaur, no chance and won the final at the ATP tournament in Vienna. The Spanish star defeated the Australian 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday, securing his second title since returning from a months-long injury lay-off.

De Minaur, who had beaten the new world number one Alexander Zverev in a three-set thriller in Saturday’s semi-final, was clearly outclassed by Alcaraz’s power, particularly in the first set, and lost for the seventh time in their seventh head-to-head encounter. For the Murcia native, it was his first victory in Vienna; on his only previous appearance, in 2021, he had lost to Zverev in the semi-finals.

Alcaraz secured the 28th ATP singles title of his career; among active professionals, only Novak Djokovic (102) and Jannik Sinner (28) are ahead of him. Zverev remains on 26 tournament victories. Alcaraz had most recently won the tournament in Tokyo at the start of October.
