Agreement reached: Lewandowski moves to FC Barcelona

It was a tough struggle. But now there is agreement. FIFA World Player Robert Lewandowski is moving from FC Bayern to FC Barcelona. He is not expected to attend the team presentation of the Munich team this Saturday, he is expected to arrive in Catalonia this weekend.

After weeks of back and forth, FC Bayern and FC Barcelona have now reached an agreement. Bild and The Athletic report that Robert Lewandowski, who had been increasingly teasing his departure from Munich, will move to FC Barcelona one year before the end of his contract. The transfer fee amounts to 45 million euros, plus possible bonus payments of five million euros.

So what had been foreshadowed for several days is now fixed. The world footballer is expected in Catalonia as early as this weekend, and he is not to attend the Bavarian team presentation in the Allianz Arena. That was the goal of all involved. On Saturday morning, however, Lewandowski still trained with the team at Säbener Straße.

A quick solution was found – in the interests of all parties

Neither Lewandowski nor the Munich decision-makers wanted to tie the 33-year-old to the FCB for longer than necessary – at least not after all that had happened: public statements, listless performances in training, internal criticism of the player …

Therefore, an agreement should be reached as soon as possible, at best this weekend, in order to fulfil Lewandowski’s wish for a transfer before his trip to the USA, which starts on Monday.

For FC Barcelona, the timing also played a role. The Catalans are also embarking on a trip to the United States. Coach Xavi wanted Lewandowski on board at all costs. Now all these scenarios are coming true.

With this, Lewandowski is leaving FC Bayern after eight years. During this time, he has won the championship eight times, the Champions League, the European Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and has also been FIFA World Player twice. The clear favourite to take his place as third captain behind Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller is Joshua Kimmich.
