After six years: Edoardo Mortara to leave Maserati MSG Racing

Edoardo Mortara will no longer compete for Maserati MSG Racing in Formula E in 2024 – the Italian competed for the team for six years

Edoardo Mortara and Maserati MSG Racing are going their separate ways with immediate effect: the Italian will no longer compete for the Italian sports car manufacturer’s racing team in the tenth Formula E season.

Mortara joined the team, then called ‘Venturi’, in 2017. In the six-year collaboration, one of the longest and most successful driver-team partnerships in Formula E, the Italian celebrated a total of six victories. He stood on the podium 13 times, started twice from pole position and collected a total of 422 World Championship points.

In the seventh season, Mortara was crowned vice world champion. “The last six years of my career have been quite a journey and it has been an honour to represent the team during that time,” says the former DTM driver. “We’ve been through a lot together since 2017, it’s been a rollercoaster at times.”

“By learning from the difficult moments we have experienced, we have grown into a competitive team fighting for race wins and world championships,” Mortara said. “I am proud of the role I have played in this. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team for their confidence in me and their support, and I wish them the best of luck for the future. “

“A privilege to work with him “

“We would like to thank Edo for his efforts and achievements over the past six seasons,” said James Rossiter, Team Principal at Maserati MSG Racing. “His experience, knowledge and expertise have been vital to our journey and development as a team. Personally, it has been a privilege to work with him and we all wish him every success for the future. “

“Maserati would like to thank Edo for his contribution and constant commitment to the team throughout Season 9,” also says Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse. “His perseverance has helped the team to achieve positive results and contribute to the success of Maserati’s first season in the all-electric racing series; he has also demonstrated his ability to bounce back from difficult moments.”

“He is a successful driver and we are pleased and honoured that he has been a figurehead for the Trident around the world,” said Sgro. “We wish him all the best in his racing career.”

It is unclear whether Mortara will remain loyal to Formula E and race for another team. Maserati MSG Racing is also keeping it open for the time being as to who will take the Italian’s place.
