After only three and a half months: Ranieri sacked at Watford

Claudio Ranieri has been sacked as Watford FC coach after just three and a half months in charge. The Italian most recently lost 3-0 with the Hornets against fellow promoted Norwich City.

After Xisco Munoz, who was already sacked by owner Gino Pozzo after matchday 7, Ranieri now also has to pack his bags – as first reported by “The Athletic”. The Italian, who was hired on 4 October, picked up just seven points in the 13 games that followed – but that included a 4-1 win at home to Manchester United. Most recently, however, the Hornets lost 3-0 to relegation rivals Norwich, their 11th league defeat under Ranieri.

Search for number three coach

In the days that followed, things got uncomfortable for the 70-year-old at the promoted London club, with the mood at the club and among those in charge tense. In addition, Ranieri was harsh with some of the players – on Monday, the official dismissal followed. The search for a third coach this season is already underway, but no concrete name has been named yet.

After 20 games, Watford are in 19th place. After the international break, they will face last-place Burnley on 5 February.
