After Olympiakos and Nottingham: Marinakis also wants in on Rio Ave

Billionaire shipowner Evangelos Marinakis is apparently about to make his third investment in a European Premier League club

According to consistent Portuguese and Greek media reports, shipowner Evangelos Marinakis wants to invest in Portuguese first division club Rio Ave.

The relegation-threatened first division club is plagued by enormous financial worries. Initially, Marinakis wants to pour ten million euros into the club’s coffers to ensure that it can continue to play. In the medium term, the majority shareholding is also to be purchased. Further details are to follow after the club’s general meeting next Sunday.

Rio Ave would be the third European first division club owned by the Greek billionaire after Olympiakos and Nottingham Forest
