After loan termination in Turkey: Cvancara moves to Celtic

Celtic Glasgow loans Czech striker Tomas Cvancara from Borussia Mönchengladbach—with an option to buy.

After his surprise return from Turkey, Tomas Cvancara is leaving Borussia Mönchengladbach again and joining Scottish top club Celtic Glasgow on loan. The 25-year-old spoke of a “huge honor.” The “Bhoys” also secured an option to buy.

“We are delighted that, following the premature termination of his loan to Antalyaspor, we have quickly found a very good and attractive solution for all parties involved,” said Borussia’s sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Few goals and a lot of baggage

Gladbach and Cvancara: It just didn’t really work out. The Czech joined the Foals in 2023 from Sparta Prague for over ten million euros, played 54 games for Borussia and scored only eight goals as a striker – too few to be considered a success. However, the Czech was not satisfied, was unable to establish himself as a regular player and, after many disappointments and setbacks, was carrying a lot of baggage. In the summer, he went on loan to Antalyaspor in Turkey, but made a surprise return in the winter.

His record in Turkey was room for improvement. Eleven league appearances and two in the cup. In the SüperLig, he came on as a substitute five times and scored his only goal in the 2-5 defeat to Rizespor at the beginning of October. Since the end of November, he has been completely absent from the squad. Added to this were unpaid wages, which ultimately led to the termination of his loan contract and his return to Gladbach. It was then unclear what would happen next. Gladbach coach Eugen Polanski left the door open, while at the same time allowing the Czech to negotiate with other clubs. He has now found what he was looking for in Scotland.
