Having recovered from heart surgery, Scott McTominay is back training with SSC Napoli.

Scottish international Scott McTominay is able to return to the pitch following heart surgery – and took part in SSC Napoli’s training session this Wednesday.

“Scott McTominay underwent further tests, which showed that he is fit to play. The Napoli player has therefore resumed training with the team,” announced the Italian top-flight club, currently ninth in Serie A.

The procedure took place in Manchester

McTominay had to undergo surgery, known as ablation, to treat a heart rhythm disorder. In this minimally invasive procedure, tissue in the heart responsible for causing cardiac arrhythmia is selectively ablated. The procedure was carried out in Manchester, where the 29-year-old began his professional career and was under contract until 2024.

This was followed by a move to Italy, where McTominay has been under contract with Napoli since the summer of 2024. He helped SSC Napoli win the Italian league title in the 2024/25 season. At this year’s World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico, McTominay and Scotland were knocked out in the group stage.
