After cardiac arrest: Bronny James makes his NCAA debut

The good news: Bronny James is back on the basketball court after his cardiac arrest. The son of NBA superstar LeBron James has made his debut in the college league

Just under five months ago, 19-year-old James suffered a cardiac arrest and on Sunday, LeBron James’ eldest son played at college level for the first time. Wearing the USC Trojans jersey, the guard made his NCAA debut in a narrow 79-84 loss to the Long Beach State 49ers.

The result certainly took a back seat for the James family, with LeBron watching the game from row one of the Galen Center in Los Angeles.

James, who is regarded as a great talent, scored four points, three rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes of play – he also made a spectacular block at the board on his opponent’s fast break. After the game, he said that he was “grateful for everything.”

“A milestone for our family “

“It’s a milestone for our family and another step for him on the road to his basketball career,” LeBron had said before the game. The 38-year-old captured the emotional moment of his son’s first substitution on his smartphone.

At the end of July, Bronny James collapsed during a training session with the Trojans and was taken to hospital. He was discharged a few days later. In August, his family announced that the 19-year-old had been diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and was undergoing treatment.
